Veterinary Technicians are trained and provide assistance to the Veterinarian in patient care. The position of Veterinary Technician is similar to a registered nurse in human medicine. Veterinary Technicians provide a lot of the hands-on medical care that patients receive while in our hospital. The Veterinary Technician job includes anesthetic monitoring, surgical and dental assistance, performing laboratory diagnostics, radiology, calculation and administration of medications and treatment plans that have been prescribed by the veterinarian, and client education, among other animal care, clinical tasks and administrative tasks.
Becoming a credentialed veterinary technician is not a simple procedure. The individual must complete a two year program at an AVMA-accredited school, most of which end with the awarding of an associate of applied science in veterinary technology. Admission to most technician programs is very tough, the candidate must show a strong work ethic and have previously gained high grades to gain admission. The program is very technical and demanding and ends with the student doing an internship within a veterinary hospital to gain hands on experience. There is a National Board examination and a Missouri State examination that must be passed before a Veterinary Technician can become licensed in the state of Missouri.

Jessica has been with The Pet Doctor for 5 years. She has been in the veterinary profession for many years. Jessie is our office manager and also controls all of our ordering and inventory. She also keeps track of all of our licensing and controlled substance inventory management. Jessica does a great job making sure that we have everything we need, whenever we need it. She takes care of all of our laboratory equipment, making sure that it is updated and working properly. She also does all of the daily duties of a Veterinary Technician and provides medical and nursing care for our patients.
Tiffany is a credentialed Veterinary Technician. She completed her RVT at Sanford Brown in 2009. She did her internship at The Pet Doctor and we fell in love with her and couldn’t let her go. Tiffany provides monitoring, diagnostics and medical care for all of our patients. She enjoys working with all of the rescue organizations and has a warm place in her heart for animals with special needs.
Melissa is a credentialed Veterinary Technician. She completed her RVT at Hickey College in 2009. She did her clinical internship at VSS specialty practice and come to us highly recommended. Melissa provides medical care, patient monitoring and diagnostics for our patients. She enjoys client education and will always take the time to make sure that a pet owner understands instructions or a diagnosis.
