A day in the life of a veterinarian…..It can be stressful, but exhilarating.  It can be heart-wrenching and heart-warming.  And that is just in the first hour of the day!

Dr. Marcy Hammerle practices at The Pet Doctor, 3046 Winghaven Blvd.  O Fallon, MO  636-561-9122.

All of the employees at The Pet Doctor are devoted to preserving the human-animal bond and are dedicated to treating both their clients and their pets with honesty and compassion .  The hospital’s mission statement says it all.  The Pet Doctor believes that the focus of veterinary medicine is the bond between people and their pets.  They dedicate themselves to their clients and their companions by providing comprehensive, state of the art veterinary care in a professional, modern environment.

Medical services for pets have come a long way.  Pets will receive lots of TLC and plenty of attention, but they will also be treated with progressive medical care.  The doctors and staff stay on top of the latest advancements and will always offer referral to specialists when indicated.

The Pet Doctor is an AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association)accredited hospital.   Only 3,000 veterinary clinics in the U.S. hold this designation. AAHA developed the Accreditation Program to raise the level of care provided to companion animals. They wanted to provide a way for practices to show their excellence to their clients. AAHA standards are benchmarks of excellence. Practices are regularly evaluated by a consultant to ensure they meet AAHA’s standards.  There are over 900 standards that are evaluated in The Pet Doctor’s practice. (www.aahanet.org)

Along with providing excellent care, the entire staff- (Dr. Marcy Hammerle, Dr. Kelly Hogan and the nursing staff- Jessica, Tiffany and Melissa and animal care provider Lauren) work hard to help pet owners to find the type of care that suits them and their pet.

The Pet Doctor recommends the best medical care and works with pet owners to develop the plan that fits best within their budget and their philosophy.  Each family has a different picture of what is the best type of treatment for their pet and The Pet Doctor respects those differences.  They also offer Laser surgery, which can help make surgical procedures more comfortable.  They offer some alternative options, including acupuncture.

The staff at The Pet Doctor also works with several pet rescue groups in the area.  Everyone finds it very rewarding to help cats and dogs find new forever homes.  “I think it is our duty as veterinarians to help the rescue groups in any way that we can.  They have such a difficult job.”  says Dr. Hammerle, when asked about her work with rescue groups.

I am thrilled to be chosen as Best Veterinarian.  It means so much to me.  This profession has so many sides.  I love the challenge of a difficult diagnosis or surgery, I enjoy helping pet owners keep new puppies and kittens healthy, I am happy that I can help clients through the devastating loss of a companion and I take great joy in the strength of the human-animal bond.  I cannot imagine doing anything else.”  Marcy Hammerle, DVM
