Going Green

Our Green Initiative

 

The core mission of The Pet Doctor is promoting the relationship between people and their pets. One aspect of this relationship is taking care of the world that we share. This includes a concern for, and protection of, its physical environment. To accomplish this, we must be a responsible steward of the environment.
As such, the Pet Doctor will seek to reduce the rate at which it contributes to the depletion and degradation of natural resources, Increase its use of renewable resources, and Incorporate concepts of sustainability into daily affairs.

In order to achieve these goals, the Pet Doctor will develop priorities and implement decisions regarding sustainability impacts of each area of activity. To achieve this, the practice owners shall appoint a Sustainability Committee composed of employees with an interest in and passion for the topic:

Sustainability Committee Structure

I.) Duties and responsibilities

The goals for The Pet Doctor Sustainability Committee shall be to set goals for the clinic’s sustainability program and provide oversight of that program.

The duties of the Sustainability Committee are as follows:

  1.  Within one year, complete a comprehensive inventory of greenhouse gas emissions from all activities, and update this inventory every other year thereafteWithin two years, establish a sustainability plan, including:
  2. Meaningful carbon emissions target levels and deadlines
  3. An action plan and set of intermediate goals for achieving the carbon emissions targets
  4. Plans to improve the sustainability of electricity and water usage, waste disposal and recycling, and new construction
  5. A set of recommendations for actions to heighten awareness of environmental issues within the veterinary community
  6. A list of possible opportunities for the expansion of research and clinic projects dealing with sustainability
  7. A set of mechanisms for progress-tracking and accountability
  8. Other actions and institutions necessary to further sustainability
  9. Make regular reports to the practice staff on progress in implementing its sustainability program
  10. publish a formal account of the progress of sustainability program every two years

Through our environmental policy, we have also determined a need for a “green team”. This team is a management-supported and self-empowered group of individuals who share a common goal of educating, supporting, and seeking changes that will reduce our environmental footprint—things that align with our company’s sustainability goals and enable environmental improvements and cost savings or productivity improvements through everyday practices.

Our “Green Team” includes:

Team: Dr. Kelly Hogan, Tiffany Sir, Jessica Foust, Erika Sloan, Melissa McDonald and any other interested clinic staff members.

Our goal for our “Green Team” is to meet and discuss new sustainability practices and how to implement them into daily routine.
